An Aggregate of Talent Rises Up
Ether Inc., the newest branch of Red Oak Commercial, brings long-standing subcontracting skills, aptitude and excellence to the general contracting market
You may know Ether Barlow as the heart of Red Oak Commercial. Having served the region for many years as a leading commercial plumbing firm, Ether and his team of hardworking and talented people have recently launched Ether Inc., a side by side of their already successful company that will focus on general contracting projects.
Ether, the company’s namesake, has worked for more than 25 years to build Red Oak into a multimillion dollar business. And with the advent of Ether, Inc., the plan is to bring deep-rooted subcontracting experience into the general contracting realm. The entire Barlow clan is a self-described “construction family,” with a tremendous wealth of expertise in all aspects of the industry—from plumbing and woodwork to hotel, multifamily and GC commercial projects.
An Emerging GC Business
As Dee Barlow, a senior manager with the company (and one of Ether’s trusted family members) notes, “We’ve worked the subcontractor side of things for many years and we understand the importance of the details that go into a job. The greatest efficiency on a job site is the attention to the details and progress indicators. We learned much of that importance in our subcontracting experience. So, we feel there is great value to our clients in our being able to see the complete picture, understand the order and progression of a job, and then bring those culminating experiences to a general contracting project.”
Having been established in the beginning of 2017, Ether Inc. is already making a name for itself, building on the stellar reputation of Red Oak Commercial and tapping into the resources and experience of not only its leadership team but of their seasoned superintendents and crew members as well. The general contracting side has already completed five new free-standing retail stores in the Arizona statewide market and has a project roster filling up for the near future. And they’re only just getting started!
An Aggregate of Experience
Dee says, “This step makes great sense from so many different angles. We knew it would be an excellent talent fit. With project management degrees completed or in progress, our management team is perfecting those skills with education. But education cannot trump experience. Ether has a good business mind and talent. The combined experiences allow us to see the acquisition, beginning and the progress of an organized project and see it to full signed off completion. Most of our superintendents are hands on. We have an uncle who brings a lifetime of experience and is a mentor to us. We have a construction business mentor. We have access to a great talent pool—that is, we can bring in the best people for each job. We’ve brought together some of the top resources out there and we know how to get a job done—beginning to end.”
Ether says, “The pursuit of honesty, integrity, confidence and equity comes with a price. I feel like we have paid a price with lessons learned and growing from those lessons. The construction business is an integrity and fairness playing field. We have found that character is key to sustained business relationships and growth. Our word, our contracts, our project delivery comes from implementing systems that reflect our character. This is an exciting step for us!”
What’s in a Name?
Interestingly, the Romans had an expression, nomen est omen, or “name is destiny.” It is no surprise then that Ether Inc.’s success, like the organic compound that bears its name, relies on aggregating talent and abilities to realize its full potential. And just as ether rises, Ether Barlow and his team have every intention of guiding the company to new heights in the construction world.
