Major Building Products Supplier & Timber Sawmill
NORTHERN OHIO LUMBER & TIMBER, Ohio’s oldest lumberyard and sawmill, continues to adapt to major project needs with the addition of Architectural Harvest Reclaimed Lumber
Since 1864, NORTHERN OHIO LUMBER & TIMBER has been the source for commercial building supplies in downtown Cleveland. That’s right. Abraham Lincoln was president; there were 36 states in the U.S.; and for the next 155 years, NORTHERN OHIO would be supplying lumber, building supplies and timbers for thousands of offices and warehouses throughout the area.
Today, from its downtown, four-acre Cleveland Yard on West 3rd Street, NORTHERN OHIO continues to provide project estimating services—with veteran, skilled take-offs—on building materials supplies to the largest scale projects in the market.
And, like any 155-year-old company must, NORTHERN OHIO continues to adapt to the ever-changing needs of contractors, architects, designers and developers by adding a new line of business in 2016: commercial-scale processing of “ready-to-install” antique, rustic, reclaimed lumber for interior and exterior finishes in restaurant, retail, hospitality, office and residential environments.
NORTHERN OHIO serves its clientele through its three lines of business:
Commercial Building Products
First and foremost—and since 1864 from their location in the historic Flats of Cleveland—NORTHERN OHIO has been a full-service supplier of commercial building products with a complete line of lumber, sheathing products, millwork, doors, cabinetry, hardwood flooring, windows, pressure-treated and fire-treated materials. The oldest lumberyard in the state of Ohio, thousands of Cleveland landmarks have installed materials from NORTHERN OHIO ranging from Public Square’s Tower City Center to Cleveland Stadium and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
Custom Heavy Timber Sawmill, Featuring Douglas Fir, Cedar and Eastern White Pine
NORTHERN OHIO is the only full-service custom timber fabricator/supplier in the region that saws and surfaces custom-sized structural materials on the Millhouse deck as large as 16x20 inches up to 41 feet in length. In fact, NORTHERN OHIO’s Millhouse still operates the largest timber saw and timber planer in the region, both of which the company bought new in 1893. They are still used daily because the massive iron machines do not flinch on heavy timber stock. “It’s not just because of our rich history and heritage that they’ve never stopped running; they are solid, huge, cut true and are big-time performers,” shares NOLT owner Stuart Sheridan.
Architectural Harvest Reclaimed Lumber—From an 1864 Sawmill
Now a must-stop for any large, character, interior finish restaurant/retail project, NORTHERN OHIO’s Cleveland Yard began processing and supplying Architectural Harvest Reclaimed Lumber in 2016—clean, dry, de-nailed and end-cut antique lumber in both rustic and sanded (S4S) finishes. Sawmill prepped using lumberyard best practices, the Architectural Harvest line is the largest in the state of Ohio with over ½ million bf of ready-to-apply reclaimed lumber: barn siding and lumber, high-character hardwood flooring, millwork, brilliant rustic feature wall materials, hand-hewn timbers, etc., all on-site and in warehouse pallet racking. NORTHERN OHIO supplied all the specialty materials for major Cleveland projects, such as the Edgewater Beach House on the Lake Erie waterfront, the Sapphire Creek Winery in Chagrin Falls, and the Diocese of Ohio Bellwether Farm, to name just a few.
Treating Ohio Right
Maintaining a strategic position right in the heart of the city, NORTHERN OHIO LUMBER & TIMBER remains the premier resource for lumber, timber and now, reclaimed lumber—all while providing the highest customer service its patrons have come to expect over the past 155 years.
