MMI Storage Solutions expands beyond the retail stockroom, providing expert space-saving solutions to diverse industries
Mobile Media, Inc. (MMI) founded in 1986, started as a small company that provided storage solutions for big-name organizations like HBO, Sony and ABC. MMI primarily focused on storing media for these companies (think DVDs and video cassettes) but quickly learned that the company’s livelihood would be found in the retail industry. From that point, MMI became a single source for all stockroom and warehouse racking solutions.
Today, MMI provides storage solutions for a variety of industries, including retail, food service, hospitality and sporting. Being a full back-of-house supplier, MMI can provide static or mobile high-density shelving, lockers, desks, tables, and a multitude of accessories to optimize inventory capacity.
Founder Lance Pennington and his wife, Nancy, who are the current owners, are the backbone of the organization, supporting the day-to-day functions by providing direction to the executive management team and establishing long-term goals, strategies, plans and policies. They are aided by an expert leadership team that includes Jessica Robinson, who oversees the administrative operations and business development as well as retention, and Bill Beyer, who manages MMI’s manufacturing and production operations.
An Innovative Vision for Quality and Service
The company was essentially born out of a vision for innovation and a higher level of customer service. MMI marketing manager Joseph Seitz shares that Lance had been working for a competitor, where his suggestions for improvement were overlooked. Seitz says, “It eventually came to a point where Lance no longer felt that working for a company that did not believe in innovation and customer satisfaction was the right thing to do. From there, he started Mobile Media and has ensured that we always do right by our customers and deliver a product that is industry leading and beneficial to our clients.”
MMI prides itself on being on the cutting edge of the industry, guiding the client from design to install. Not only will the company help evaluate capacity, the MMI team will remain available long after install for service needs. Moreover, MMI offers high-quality products, including a heavier duty carriage standard, an uncompromising riding surface with smoother movement, patented braking and track sweeps that help to prevent system impairment.
MMI’s quality control process requires its system go through multiple checkpoints to ensure that it can guarantee its 10-year warranty. “If we were not so absolutely confident in our product, then we couldn’t offer such an assuring commitment. In fact, our customer service is very well regarded in the industry. We believe this is due to our company cherishing our employees, and that leads to our employees going above and beyond for our clients,” adds Seitz.
The MMI business philosophy, which is to under promise and over deliver, has not wavered over the years. Seitz explains, “We believe that being completely transparent and informing customers of any potential issue that can arise is the only way to operate. We will never promise something that we can’t furnish and we will always advise our clientele of any road blocks that they may face.”
Essentially, MMI is looking to assist those who can benefit from an increase in storage capacity or the need to save space across many industries. By shirking excessive exclusivity, the company can explore many opportunities to assist a variety of clientele, as is evidenced by its broad range of coast-to-coast customers, including Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square and Gucci on Wooster St., both in New York City, and a Vans store in Los Angeles. Now, MMI is looking to branch out even more, introducing themselves to new industries, such as hospitality and agriculture, even as they plan to fortify and nurture the industries they currently dominate.
From effective internal communication that promotes strong teamwork to always delivering on promises through exceptional customer service and quality control, MMI is positioned to maintain and build upon its stronghold in the storage industry. The team’s attention to detail, regardless of job size, is its key differentiator.
Showing Gratitude to Clients and Community
Also interested in giving back to the community, MMI involves itself in philanthropic events throughout the year, and it belongs to the local county chamber of commerce whose events they support. Additionally, most of their management team is actively involved in local church and faith organizations.
When all is said and done, MMI is your “back-of-house, one-stop shop,” concludes Seitz. “We ensure that customers know that they can call on us for anything they need regarding stockroom and warehouse solutions, even long after their initial job is completed. This is proven out by our long-term clients who have been with us, some even for decades. We have tremendous gratitude and respect for our current and future clients; without them, we would not be in business.”
