The Height of of Décor
Family-owned Decorative Ceiling Tiles goes above and beyond to provide unique wall and ceiling décor solutions
Milan Jara, along with his wife, Damaris, are the co-founders, owners and operators of Decorative Ceiling Tiles, Inc. With a welcoming showroom in Margate, Florida, and a global reach via their website, the couple’s journey with decorative tiles all started in 2008 when they put up signs in their city that read, “Crown Molding Installation—Honest & Dependable.”
Milan had been working as a trim carpenter, but when the economy took a hit, he started to advertise on his own just to get some work to keep going. The yard sign caught the attention of just the right client, it seemed, but with an unusual request for ceiling tile installation, Milan didn’t know what they were talking about. What kind of ceiling tiles? When the answer was “polystyrene,” Milan was still unsure what to do. But that didn’t last long.
He says, “I was used to working with more expensive, heavier materials like hardwoods when installing crown molding. I looked at the polystyrene product, and truthfully, I didn’t really like it. But this customer needed it to be installed and we needed the money, so I ended up doing it. I looked online and taught myself how to install it. I basically covered their ceiling with these polystyrene tiles. I painted it, and it looked great! And equally as great was the fact that I did not need a bunch of heavy tools to install them!”
Milan explains that it just blew him away. He shares, “The ceiling is the largest area of the room where people don’t generally do anything to it; it doesn’t get covered with furniture. So, if you do something creative to it, it makes a huge impact. After this job, I said to myself, ‘This is really great. I’d love to share it with my customers.’ ”
Serving Customers—Locally and Globally
Incorporating their new endeavor as Decorative Ceiling Tiles, Milan and Damaris built a web presence, and, so, have been able to service customers not only in their local region, but all over the country…and all over the world, with drop shipping being key. Since starting the business, they’ve expanded through new product offerings, new styles, new suppliers and a willingness to take risks while providing the highest level of customer service.
In fact, Milan asserts that the driving force behind the business philosophy is that they really care about the customer. He says, “Since the time I started the business, I wanted to make sure that the customer gets all his or her questions answered. We do the leg work to make sure that everything is right. So, we are just not selling product; we are there to make sure the customer gets the solution for their problem that they’re looking for. We’re not going to sell them something we don’t think will work. We know the product better than they do so we can provide the expertise and try to find the best possible match for them. And if we can’t, we send them somewhere else.”
A Personal Approach
With this attitude and its small yet expert team, Decorative Ceiling Tiles maintains a personal approach to the business, despite its far reach. Milan says, “We mainly supply wall and ceiling décor, very specialized stuff that people don’t usually know about. You can’t find what we offer at those big home retail stores. We have a very large selection of ceiling tiles, ranging from polystyrene to solid copper, hand-painted tiles. PVC, tin and imitation tin, you name it. We also supply other specialty items, such as wall panels, door skins, hand-painted crown moldings, laminates and faux wood beams.”
Whether through their website or at their Margate, Florida showroom, Decorative Ceiling Tiles is excited to continue providing top-quality service and fulfilling their clients’ decorative tile needs.
