Creative Surroundings
Surroundings by Sweetland, LLC provides decorative solutions ranging from concrete coatings and specialty painting to murals and interior design
Cyndee Sweetland and Kevin Smith, the husband and wife team behind Surroundings by Sweetland, LLC, a Green Bay-based decorative coatings enterprise, bring experience, professionalism and a depth of creativity to each and every project that comes their way.
Before co-founding Surroundings by Sweetland in 2000, Cyndee, the company’s President and CEO, had worked for many years as a professional artist, set designer and scenic painter in the theater, film and exhibit industries. Cyndee recalls, “Upon returning to my roots in this area after residing in New York and Boston, I wanted to continue using my artistic abilities. The work I focused on then was decorative paint finishes, blending techniques from the theater into homes and businesses. Kevin joined me in this endeavor shortly following.”
The combination of those artistic skills with Kevin’s in-depth experience in home construction and masonry ensures that when you hire Surroundings by Sweetland or its decorative concrete division, CemArt®, you are getting the talents of two creative minds who will make sure that your project is unique and well crafted.
As a certified Wisconsin women-owned business and a nationally recognized women-owned business enterprise, Surroundings by Sweetland is equipped to take on an array of services, including decorative concrete, epoxy floor coatings, precast concrete, decorative painting, and artwork. Cyndee and Kevin pride themselves on their extensive knowledge of their detail-oriented systems, helping to pave the way for new opportunities while always having the ability to easily track older projects.
Art at Its Heart
Cyndee’s extensive background in the arts sets Surroundings by Sweetland apart from the rest of the industry. She transformed her 20 years of experience into a host of services ranging from concrete coatings to specialty paintings, murals, and interior design. Cyndee says, “There are a lot of companies that offer epoxy coating, but we are able to offer more artistic integrity. We provide our customers with decorative choices while using our industry experience to ensure they have the right system for what they want.”
Cyndee adds, “Often, our clients are looking for decorative ideas, including finding the right colors and style for their project; our in-house design services can help with that. We believe in caring for our customers.”
Project Versatility and Creativity
Surroundings by Sweetland’s business includes residential, commercial and industrial projects. Among its high-profile local clients are Green Bay Packaging, Assumption BVM Church, Badger State Brewing Company and The Bar, to name a few.
Recently, the company tackled The Aquatic Center in Wausau, which involved the application of a double broadcast quartz system on the pool deck and coping, bathrooms, locker rooms and hallways. The company also reworked the pool deck and coping for the Holiday Inn in Wausau. This project includes removing the tile and preparing the floor for a decorative overlay. It also requires removing the tile coping and pouring a new coping and finishing it to match the new floor. Surroundings by Sweetland is doing something very similar for a residential client as well.
The company also offers industrial coatings for walkways, striping services and coatings for large working areas in plants. Community Connection
Surroundings by Sweetland’s impact is not limited to residential, commercial and industrial projects. Cyndee and Kevin have consistently participated in efforts to strengthen the connection to the arts in their own community. For over a decade, Cyndee has served as Festival Director for Green Bay Film Festival, an annual festival that celebrates local and international independent filmmakers. She has also mentored local theater students and has done set design for Next Stage, Evergreen Youth Theater and Abrams Spotlight Productions.
Cyndee concludes, “People matter...our customers, our team, our community. Ultimately, our goal is to live up to our core philosophy: ‘Make first impressions last.’ ”
