The Legacy of Quality
Becks Quality Cabinets creates the perfect blend of cabinetry style, function and value
The word “quality” is quite literally at the center of Becks Quality Cabinets, Inc. (Becks), a second-generation family-owned business headquartered in Green Bay.
Lucas Becks, current Owner and President, provides a brief history, noting that his father founded the company in 1986. “He wanted to provide a high-quality product for his customers and provide a high-quality life for his family.”
Lucas worked by his dad’s side on a part-time basis, learning everything from floor sweeping to building, finishing and installing products, and then joined full time in 1998. By 2010, the company, which had been focused squarely on residential jobs, slowly started moving toward the commercial end of the business. This shift gave Becks the opportunity to be versatile in the changing construction markets. Lucas purchased the company from his father in 2012 and it’s been full steam ahead ever since, with tremendous growth particularly in the commercial division.
Among the big growth areas are health care and financial institutions. Lucas says, “There’s a real demand for customized, unique pieces. For example, we’ve done a lot of reception counters and break rooms, things of that nature. And then we’ve also done a lot of work for hospitality, such as restaurants and bars, as well as other office spaces.”
Adding Value With Personalized Service
Lucas credits the team’s hands-on, customer-centric approach to much of their success. “We’re always looking to provide the best value for our end clients, which includes minimizing non-functional items so as to reduce as much waste as possible. We find ways to eliminate anything that is not value added for the client. Also, we stay up on the latest trends and technology, from equipment to new finishes, such as colors, laminates, stains and paints.”
Beyond that, the Becks team helps coordinate on the design function of their products, coming in at the very beginning of the process. All of Becks’ products are custom built to the space, whether its residential cabinetry, commercial casework or countertops and beyond.
Lucas also cites honesty and dependability as the mainstays of the Becks philosophy. “If we say something, we will follow through. It’s an old-school mentality, but it’s how we operate.”
With just over 50 team members, including accredited designers, carpenters and project managers, Becks Quality Cabinets fabricates everything in-house as much as possible, also handling installation for many of their jobs, which takes them across the Midwest, all the way to New Jersey, Florida and even Canada.
The Business of Improving Workspaces Lucas remarks that the needs of businesses are constantly changing, a concept that has never been more true than in the past year. He says, “Whether that calls for a new facility, an addition, or remodeling work to be done, we are capable of efficiently addressing the casework and countertop needs of your project.” Some commercial projects Becks has been involved with include Schneider National Corporate, Georgia-Pacific, Fortifi Bank and Prevea Health.
And although the focus in recent years has been on expanding the commercial side of the business, it is the very fact that Becks has such an extensive residential line that brings even more value to their commercial customers. Lucas explains, “Most of our competition doesn’t do both, so with our unique experience we’re able to accommodate the changes going on in the design of commercial spaces. In some office spaces, for instance, people want more of a homey feel. We do all our own finishing, so having the residential side makes it really easy for us to do wood staining or painting or a laminate casework-type cabinetry. For our GCs, that means they can come to one place and not have to have multiple vendors; we can service all of it.”
Core Values—Then and Now
Lucas points to the company’s mission statement as the embodiment of the Becks Quality Cabinets culture they have been striving for over the past 35 years—and which will continue well into the future: “To create the perfect blend of style, function and value for our clients and professional partners by crafting the highest quality products while providing the best service in the cabinet making industry. Our success will be measured by the relationships fostered on our core values of trust, honesty, integrity and dependability.”
